In this project, the objective was to develop long-range plans for mechanization of drum storage operations to handle finished chemical products. The result of SCG's study was the development of two-stage plan for automated drum storage operations. The objectives of the study were to develop a long-range site plan, storage mechanization concept, and feasibility study. The resulting system design was capable of incremental installation and computer controlled operation. The system was designed to receive on-site vehicle loads of drums from packaging lines and store them on pallets in an automated storage and retrieval system. The system is designed to deliver the drums to the shipping dock on pallets and retrieve the pallets after shipment of the chemicals by truck or rail. The conceptual design was included in the long-range capital plan for the facility.
